“One Crazy” Satire

In 1986, before Demi Moore was doing whip-its or John Cusack made serious movies. There was “One Crazy Summer”.

“One Crazy Summer” is director, Savage Steve Holland’s follow-up to 1985’s, “Better Off Dead…”. For it is the wacky tale of recent high school graduate, Hoops McCann (Cusack). An aspiring cartoonist, who is nearing his deadline for a scholarship to Rhode Island School of Design. Overwhelmed, Hoops heads off his friend, George (played by Joel Murray) for a memorable summer in Nantucket. Though as you can already tell from the title. It was definitely “One Crazy Summer”.

This film is truly a funny, timeless comedy. Though it was looked down on by critics back during its release. Today I feel it is a clever comedy, with a formula Hollywood should review and reuse.
